1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Hive OS - new Linux GPU mining platform on: August 06, 2018, 10:46:42 AM
Anyone know why some of features are missing one of my rig. I cant see Miner, Wallet, AMD OC setting in my screen

And also i can not see the rig on the "Monitor" tab.

is your balance good?

or are you only running the free account?

i have 3 more rigs they are normal. But this one is missing.
Yesterday there are there but today all features gone and now i cant change wallet and miner..

they are making a  lot of changes for hive2.0 coming out
so make sure your account did not change from free
if that doesnt fix it we will look into other means

Innosilicon and bitmain have sold an amazing amount of gear and low power guys have been buying and buying and buying.

All this leads me to think

We are not going to get a bull run until  the asic miners stop selling gear.

More on that:

They must have done 1 billion in gear sales in 2018  and much is at lower btc prices.
So when both Innosilicon and bitmain  stop selling  they have a vested interest in a pump of coins.  Since they have a ton of them.

As always, your thoughts are much appreciated. So you are thinking that eventually Innosilicon and Bitmain will stop selling ASIC miners and make their profits via the resulting increased prices of coins? What would their employees do? Also, that would seem to leave the market open for another player to jump in and fill the void by producing their own ASIC miners, right?

Iím with Phil on this one.
Basically what will happen is they will stop the sales  of ASICS and what I mean is they wonít sell 300 s9 but only 100 at a time not completely stop production
Then slowly increase the price of bitcoin and altcoins
To where itíll bring attention to the crypto market again
Thus making a demand on asic product and mining equipment
The two things that will change the game is FPGA become affordable or greens/reds start controlling the market
Like ASICS do to make the demand so they can supply

Moderately hopeful rendertoken or other forms of gpu marketplace gains traction this year.
Where are rendertoken currently at? Beta-testing still? Not currently giving out live rendering jobs yet are they?

...

EDIT: not considering ASICs at all. Not out of snobism, but because they really make no sense currently unless you're in need of a big door-stopper.

Their roadmap: https://rendertoken.com/#roadmap
With any luck we will be rendering by end of the year.

I'm not a huge fan of ASICs too, but I will still grab some ASICs in promising algorithms to diversify, mainly those with good revenue to electricity cost ratio.

I'm keeping an eye on them too. I really hope that blockchain rendering takes off since I think it's an excellent use of "traditional" GPUs and may prove to be a safeguard against Asics (I think).

probably have to rebuild most miner rigs to render. with a lot of rigs having 1 pcie lane per card, 4 gigs ram, undernourished cpus and little storage (120 gig ssd or 32 gig flash drives..  well i cant see how its going to be able to get all the textures and such to the cards in enough time to be useful.

maybe rigs with 4 cards at pcie x4 or 3 cards at pcie x8 along with a good quad+ core cpu with much more ram, 16+ gigs maybe. and storage for jobs so 512 gigs or more. <-- all specs guesswork on my part

wonder how much bandwidth it needs?

Here's an extremely detailed 3hr long discussion on setting up an octane render rig. At 1hr 37 mins they talked about pcie lanes: https://youtu.be/XrOBvz454fU?t=1h37m40s

TLDR: A 8x pcie 3.0 connection per gpu is highly recommended

Long version: Pcie 1x lane works too, and the rendering speed is unrelated to lane bandwidth. However during data transfer the rig will be idle, which happens when you are receiving new job or swapping out the textures in gpu vram. The penalty will be especially heavy for out of core rendering (Scene is 64gb, gpu only has 11gb, there will be loads of transfer from system ram to vram).

When beta testnet launch, we will get a clearer picture on the ideal rig setup. Risers MIGHT still be the best price performance because a Threadripper mobo + 1900x will run $700+ USD and only fits 4 gpu. A gigabyte B250 fintech with 12 gpu and 64gb ram might be better bang for buck.

On a side note the Gigabyte b250 fintech is the only mining mobo with 4x ram slots, and 64gb imo is a must for rendertoken.

I hope someone comes up with a Onda B250 form factor threadripper board, with 7x pcie 8x slots and 2x m2 pcie slots. To run 7x 1180/2080 + 2x acorn fpga accelerator.

i see internet bandwidth holding back this project even downloading and uploading only 256 sec of raw video would take some bandwidth.
4mins of 4k video is 8gigs of data
4mins of 1080p video is 4gigs of data
give and take on both.
i do love the idea of using the power for more than just a fast calculator

@phil

Im really excited about this project!!!

I live in the sunshine state and we have nice long sunny days

If this project comes to light you can count me in on a ton of these!!!!!!!!

I kinda miss buying s3's for $40, mining for 3-4 months then selling them for $60 and finding another for $40 to take its place....

Who knows the s-9  may be under 400 or 500 soon

here they are for 749 on ebay

https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Bitmain-Antminer-S9i-14T-May-batch-ship-now/132631743423?

Thatís what Iím waiting for!!!
those s9 to drop below 500$ so I can buy a couple of them

If the D3s drop below 200$ Iím going to grab a few more

Problems abound due to the huge fall runup.

Bitmain saw really big profits last year.

So much so they got ideas on what to do with excess profits.

I find it very interesting that  innosilicon now has

A better zec miner more hash less power.
A better decred miner more hash less power.
A better sia miner more hash less power.
A better sha miner more hash less power.

As compared to bitmain.

Yeah bitmain is cheaper but the specs are better for innosilicon.

Forcing the hand of bitmain i like this.
I like how the decred miner is bogo but itís 6k for one lol
In a few months Iím sure bitmain will bring something out that will bring a punch to the competitor

anyone here using the simple rig resetter with hive?
need help trying to figure out why it isnt sending the keep me alive

I am and since a recent update (did clean installs on all my rigs using latest image to get the new drivers), I haven't been able to get it going again.

I posted about it here:

http://forum.hiveos.farm/discussion/694/simplerigresetter-srrv2-watchdog#latest

i found the problem and they are pushing it in to the dev'

do this
sudo nano /hive/opt/srrv2/srrv2
enter
go down till you see srrSlot=$2
change it to slot=$2
ctl x
Y
enter

and the srr will work perfectly again

10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: The Outlook on Cryptocurrency Mining - GPU vs ASIC vs FPGA on: June 01, 2018, 03:23:26 PM
it is hard telling what will happen with the all the asic and fpga

but money is what controls the world and make it go around

if gpu mining falls so does the crypto market
do i think it will completely fall off the map no but it will hurt a lot of peoples feelings financially

2017 market boom was because gpu mining took off
everyones brother uncle cousin could take part of that market
taking that away and then placing "walls" between those markets would kill it
more take interest in mining to make money then trading the markets to make money its easier everyone likes it easy

personally i dont see gpu mining going anywhere
i do like progs take on balance it is a good step in the right direction

anyone have any D3 mods or recommended settings for them?

Blissz firmware update is good. Lower power and lower temps.

Didnít blissz have to stop that due to legal stuff??

That would appear to be the case:

You can still use the firmware

Links have been taken down

We need the srr in the dashboard on the website
Anyone with an srr would love it

Want to buy a couple see how they do in Florida?
How are the temps and speeds?

Is anyone looking at letting go specifically 1070/1070ti?

Logic here is that they get hurt the most by the equihash ASIC's, while 1080/1080ti have other options (ETH, Lyra)

Obviously Vegas are outstanding performers and worth keeping.

Right now I have;
9 * 1070ti
7 * 1080
7 * 1080ti
8 * Vega

and looking at dumping all of the 1070ti

you can mine zencash for 15$ a day right now with just those 1070s
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 8th Alt coin thread. Or what to do now that asics are all over the place. on: May 26, 2018, 11:25:23 AM
Yeah switchers are always chasing and behind  the hot coin.  Plus a shit ton of other people do the same switching.

I mine 1 or 2 coins  zec and a shit coins at the moment and my 16x 1080tis are between 2.25 and 3.25 a card before power cost.

profit switching is a waste of time always chasing down money

what i do is have 2 rigs that are dedicated to mining shit coins (one amd one nvidia)
then all the others mine eth/zec might do some xmr soon

hoping for that one day those shit coins become something is better than chasing those pennies
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 8th Alt coin thread. Or what to do now that asics are all over the place. on: May 21, 2018, 11:08:48 AM
The way the market is now there will always be a coin that be mined for a profit.
There is way to much money to lose if there is not one available.
But i do agree with phil that we are about to see coins fall.
The mother tree of crypto can only hold so many before it falls.
